- Today I got a mailer with info from Microsoft about new development products.
- In the price list accompanying the broschure is a Visual C++ 4.0 Standard Edition
- product selling at an incredibly low price. Curiously, it is not mentioned in the
- broschure, just in the price list.
- Does anyone know what this is? Are there limitations etc?
-
- My suggestions are:
-
- i) It is a serious attempt at killing off Borland by pricing out BC++ 5.0.
- As soon as it is done the price goes up so we better hurry up!
- ii) It is an appetizer with limited capabilities forcing me to later buy
- a "professional" version to be able to do any serious work. (Just like
- Visual Basic operates) In this case just ignore "Standard Edition"
- iii) Someone made 1.000.000 CD copies without first removing the known bugs
- and now they want to redeem some of the investment by selling a "low-end"
- compiler that can be later upgraded. Same as for ii)
-
- Any ideas out there?
